Features of Custom Display Boxes in Retail Environments

1- Packaging with Dual Usage

Display boxes serve the function of transporting products and displaying them on counters or floors. Because of this, a separate shipping carton and a retail merchandising fixture can be eliminated for many product lines.

2- Location Based on Customer Flow

There are many display boxes found at check-out lanes, or in aisles that receive the most customer traffic. These locations encourage last-minute purchases and contribute significantly to impulse buying.

3- Considerations of Product Weight

Lightweight retail products are usually packaged in paperboard or SBS and heavier ones in corrugated cardboard. Many wholesale display boxes are produced with different grades of board based on the requirements of the product.

4- Display of Printed Brand

At the point of sale, display boxes are able to print a display of the brand and product information by means of either a CMYK or PMS print. This makes the display an integral part of the product offering in a retail setting.

Material and Strength Options for Display Boxes

1- Paperboard/SBS

Lightweight custom display boxes for use in retail environments are frequently made from a material called SBS or paperboard. Typical caliper ranges are 10pt to 24pt, making paperboard displays suitable for products like cosmetics or OTC products.

2- Corrugated Cardboard

To display products that are heavier and need additional strength, boxes made of corrugated cardboard are used. Modular design and flute type are used to determine the strength and the burst test requirements for these display boxes which typically range between 125 lb and 500 lb.

3- CCNB Board

CCNB (Clay Coated News Back) is a cost-effective material for retail display packaging that has a printed surface. It is frequently used for retail display boxes that have an easily printable, full-color graphics design and require moderately-fortified displays.

4- Uses of Chipboard

Chipboard is excellent for lightweight structures. For example, it is a great material for a display box. For counter units that display products, where displayed product weight is low and shelf space is limited, chipboard is an excellent material.

Order Quantity and Production Setup

For display boxes, particularly those that are printed, ordered quantity may vary. Retail launches may require lesser quantities, whereas bulk orders are required for complete production runs. To evaluate the design of the display box and to ensure that the structures are within the limits of the company, a 3D mockup or CAD design is used. Display boxes that are less complex in nature have a lower limit. Within the continental US, shipping is free for display boxes.
